A cut above: The 320-tonne TBM cutterhead was lifted into position earlier this month.

"Alice" received her new set of teeth when Smith Cranes lifted in the 15m diameter cutterhead earlier this month.

This very-necessary 320-tonne component of the TBM (tunnel boring machine), the tenth largest in the world, brings the Waterview Connection Project in Auckland one step closer to completion.

A unique feature of this job was the use of the hydraulically-adjustable SyncHoist load-positioning system – the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
