Six-crane 'tandem' lift eliminates 95% of work @ height

The 60-tonne, 65m-long roof structure for Tuatara Structures of Greendale was hoisted today by a team of six cranes in less than one hour.

During the lift portal legs, which were attached to the roof trusses by one bolt each, went through a 90 degree rotation.

Six cranes (Liebherr LTF1045 x2, Liebherr LTC1045, Liebherr LTM1060, Grove GMK4100L and Grove GMK5130) were on-site at 6.30am and lifting by 9am. Load carried was 10 tonne per crane, completing the lift by 10am.

With 95% of roof production undertaken at ground level, many hazards were eliminated and significant savings were made through a reduced need for high-access machinery, scaffolding, edge protection and other specialist safety equipment.
