Past projectsUniversity of Canterbury2012 – Ilam BRIEF
Due to earthquake damage, the hydraulics laboratory water tower structure at the Canterbury university needed to be replaced.
Smith Crane and Construction was contracted to manufacture replacement cylindrical hollow tower sections and also carry out remedial works to the original header tank.
To allow the header tank to be reused in the new structure, we removed a section of the base ring and cast a new profile to match the seating details of the new tower sections. Once erected the separate sections of the header tank and tower units were connected together using a post tensioning system.
