Past projectsSelwyn Aquatic Centre2012 – Rolleston BRIEF
In the construction of this building a range of precast elements, with varying surface treatments, were used.
These included precast stairs, bleacher units, floor and pool panels and a variety of wall panels incorporating beams and corbels to allow for the seating of prestressed flooring units. While some of the units were a fair face finish or contained rebates as a feature, by the far the most complicated were the main entrance feature wall panels that were ground and polished.
These panels were required to be a structural element, while the concrete used was required to be made from a selection of aggregates not normally used for this application. Once cast, these panels, some weighing in excess of 15 tonne, had to be rotated 180 degrees to allow access to the outer surface for grinding and polishing. These then had to be rotated back for storage and subsequent trucking to site for erection.
