2012 – Crofton Road

BRIEF

This project was for the construction of a trafficable access bridge into a new subdivision. The existing structure that was there was partly damaged during the earthquake and was now not able to hold sufficient loadings.

The first construction phase was the demolition of part of the existing structure, protecting the insitu culvert which was to remain in place.

The bridge foundations consisted of 8 driven concrete piles at each abutment and then an insitu abutment was poured for the hollowcore deck units were places (9m long). A 75mm concrete topping was then poured on top of the deck units.

Units were placed using a 20T Franna crane as they had to be carried down a long narrow driveway to be placed in position.

The bridge was designed to take 20T of weight, purposely built for the construction of a subdivision within the property.
